Two People Killed, Driver Seriously Injured In Single-vehicle Las Vegas Car Accident

February 17, 2014

One of the first things that we learn when we are taught to drive is that we need to always be mindful of our speed. We need to do so not only so that we can avoid getting speeding tickets and provide ourselves more time to avoid other vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists but also so that we can safely negotiate curves in the road. If we approach a curve with too much speed and we fail to slow down in time, the situation can quickly lead to disaster. Tragically, that’s what police suspect occurred over the weekend when two women were killed and the male driver of a vehicle was seriously injured in a single-vehicle Las Vegas car accident that police are still investigating.

An article describing the crash can be found here, and the details surrounding it sound nothing short of horrifying. No word was given as to the current medical status of the driver who was rushed to a nearby hospital after the accident. According to the article, a 21-year-old male was driving his Hyundai sedan on West Ogden Avenue near South City Parkway when he apparently lost control of his vehicle as he encountered a curve in the road. As a result, the vehicle struck a bridge pier and then spun into the opposite lane of traffic before coming to a stop. Two female passengers in the vehicle whose ages were 20 and 21 were killed. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was declared dead at the hospital.

First, we’d like to express our most sincere condolences to the families and friends of the people who were killed in this accident. We also hope that the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash is able to survive his injuries. Finally, we hope that the police investigation into the incident comes to a fast and accurate conclusion so that the people who continue to suffer as a result of this terrible incident are able to find some sort of closure.

In addition, the article states that there have now already been 12 people killed in traffic accidents within the Metro’s jurisdiction in 2014. Overall, nearly 400 people are killed in car accidents every year across Nevada and more than 20,000 people are injured. According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, nearly 7,500 fixed objects are struck by vehicles in accidents on an annual basis, and obviously, these objects cause an enormous amount of damage. While nothing has yet been proven with regards to this accident, the situation could lead to the filing of Nevada wrongful death lawsuits by the families of the women who were killed depending on the results of the investigation.
