One Injury After SUV Collides Near The Orleans
August 05, 2014
A man was ejected from his car after hitting a work truck near The Orleans Casino, according to the metro police. The accident happened at 6:20 am on the Southeast corner of Tropicana and Cameron. Although the victim sustained injuries, they are not believed to be life-threatening. According to some sources, alcohol may have been involved in the accident.
ALCOHOL-RELATED FATALITIES ON THE RISE
The fatality rate of drunk drivers is on the rise. It is estimated that almost 30 people in the United States die in motor vehicle accidents due to alcohol each day. In 2010, a total of 10, 228 people were killed in accidents involving alcohol. Over 1.4 million drivers were arrested in 2010 due to driving under the influence. Some deaths from drunk or “impaired” drivers can be prevented by enforcing the 0.08 percent blood alcohol level limit as well as by taking licenses away from those who drive under the influence and using sobriety checkpoints. However, no matter how careful you are, it is very possible that you could be the victim of a drunk driver.
COMPENSATION FOR VICTIMS OF DRUNK DRIVERS
The problem with trying to recover compensation from a drunk driver is that, in many cases, the driver has no insurance and no assets with which he or she can pay for damages. In fact, in many drunk driving scenarios, the driver has already lost his or her license and has prior DUI offenses. This means that, although the driver may go to jail, you will have to turn to your own insurance company for compensation. Collecting money from your own insurance company can be just as difficult as collecting from a drunk driver. In some cases, victims fight harder with their own insurance companies than with the insurers representing other drivers. Without good legal representation, you may not recover the money to which you are entitled.
