Man Killed In Las Vegas Accident

August 25, 2014

A Las Vegas man died after being thrown out of a car, according to recent reports by the Nevada Highway Patrol. Authorities say they arrived at the scene of the two-car collision at about 3 a.m. on the east side of the Valley on U.S. 95 South near East Flamingo to find that one person was dead on the scene. The victim, 25-year-old Hexiquio Rios of Las Vegas, was identified by a coroner and the cause and manner of death will be determined after an autopsy. Police investigated the accident for evidence of driving under the influence.

According to authorities, the man was speeding in his Volkswagen when he rear-ended a Honda Civic driven by an unidentified 22-year-old woman. They were both driving southbound at the time. The man was thrown out of the car and the Volkswagen flipped several times. The Honda hit the center median. The driver was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. She may now face DUI charges.

DUIS-A BIG PROBLEM IN LAS VEGAS

Las Vegas is a lively, bustling city that attracts many tourists. This can often mean that people coming out of the casinos are driving under the influence. This factor combined with the fact that many people are from out of state and do not know their way around the wide boulevards often leads to drunk driving crashes. In Nevada, there were over 11,500 DUI arrests made and 82 fatalities in 2013.

WHAT IF I AM THE VICTIM OF A DRUNK DRIVING CRASH?

If you or a loved one has ever been injured in a Nevada DUI accident, it is important that you know what to do in the aftermath to protect your rights. Even if the accident may be partially your fault, you may still be entitled to damages. For example, a rear-end collision is usually considered to be the fault of the rear driver. However, if evidence shows that the other driver was drunk and may have swerved in front of you, it is possible you could still collect at least partial damages for your injuries.
