Horror And Tragedy – Pedestrian Killed By Falling Light Pole
March 14, 2014
Every year, more than 800 Nevada pedestrian accidents occur. These crashes lead to more than 500 injuries and to nearly 50 fatalities. These may seem like relatively small numbers on the surface, but that means that 10 people are injured and nearly one person is killed every week in the state while out walking. Pedestrian accidents are scenes of total horror, and anyone who has witnessed one will most likely never forget what it was like to see a vehicle collide with an unprotected walker. Fortunately, the number of pedestrian accidents in Nevada has dropped slightly in recent years, but they certainly have not been eliminated.
When people think of pedestrian accidents, most envision a vehicle colliding with a person. Few think of anyone or anything else getting involved, but tragically that’s what happened on Monday the sixteenth, when a female pedestrian was killed after the driver of a van allegedly veered off the road and crashed into a light pole. As a result of the collision, the pole fell and landed on the woman, killing her. The driver of the van then drove back across the road and crashed into two parked cars before coming to rest.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon. The 35-year-old woman was walking on Bonanza Road west of Pecos Road. The driver of the van is a 69-year-old male and a resident of Las Vegas. The identities of the two parties were not released to the public pending notification of family members, and police are continuing to investigate the situation.
First, we’d like to extend our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the woman who was suddenly and tragically killed in this Las Vegas pedestrian accident. Losing a life in this manner is extremely difficult to understand, and we hope that those who were close to her are able to somehow come together and work through their grief. We also hope that the investigation into this incident leads to fast and accurate results so that closure can be obtained at some point. When someone loses a life in a pedestrian accident, that person’s family is often overcome by grief and shock. These are not emotions that lend themselves to clear thinking, and unfortunately insurance companies will sometimes take advantage of that emotional state and attempt to quickly settle a matter if their policyholder was responsible for the death that occurred.
There is no telling as to whether or not that has happened or will happen here, but it is something that we have seen many times over the last 30 years when we’ve helped people deal with the aftermaths of fatal crashes. If you have lost someone you love in a crash, you need to somehow work through your emotions and obtain the legal help you need.
