Big Rig, Big Wreck: Semi Truck Accident Closes Interstate
February 21, 2014
Semi-truck accidents are often deadly, but fortunately the injuries appear to be minimal in a crash between a car and a tractor-trailer rig that caused significant delays on Interstate 15 near Las Vegas. Nevada Highway Patrol officers responded to a crash near Sahara Avenue in which a semi-truck and car were involved. All five southbound lanes of the interstate were briefly shut down while the semi and a car waited to be towed from the scene. There was no word of anyone being transported to a hospital, so it is possible that there were only minor injuries from the crash.
LARGE TRUCK ACCIDENTS ARE OFTEN DEADLY
According to the US Department of Transportation, there are approximately 500,000 accidents every year involving large trucks. Large trucks are defined as those weighing more than 10,000 pounds when empty. Of these large truck accidents, about 5,000 result in fatalities. While there are fewer trucks on the road than cars, about one out of every eight fatalities involves a large truck, and 98 percent of these fatalities are victims in the passenger vehicle rather than the truck. These statistics tell a grim story. In many cases in which a large truck is involved in an accident with a passenger vehicle, the passengers and driver in the car are badly injured or killed.
HOW CAN A LAS VEGAS PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEY HELP ME?
A Las Vegas personal injury attorney who is dedicated to getting victims the largest possible amounts of compensation for a truck accident also helps them protect their rights. Insurance companies and defense attorneys are very anxious to get victims to settle for small amounts in truck cases because they know that the victims may be entitled to much more money than they are offering. On the other hand, suing a truck driver and trucking company can be complicated. The driver and company may not be from Nevada but simply passing through, making service much more difficult and questions of jurisdiction more complex. Further, there may be several defendants in a trucking accident case, including the driver, his or her employer, the owner of the truck or the cargo and others. The attorneys at High Stakes Injury Law are ready to help victims of Las Vegas trucking accidents recover the money they deserve. You may be entitled to recover money for your medical bills, payment for your pain and suffering and other costs related to your accident.
