Accident Leaves Two Injured And One In Critical Condition
August 27, 2014
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, two pedestrians were struck by a car while crossing the street. A 22-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, hit a 46-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman as they were walking near a crosswalk. The man sustained critical injuries while the woman sustained moderate injuries. The police have not stated who was at fault nor have any citations been issued. The accident comes just after a 45-year-old man was killed after being struck by a car in Las Vegas. He died of blunt force trauma. The accident happened on the highway, where law enforcement believes he was leaving his broken-down vehicle.
SHOCKING STATISTICS ON PEDESTRIAN DEATH RATES
According to the Census Bureau in 2009, there were 33,808 deaths from motor vehicle accidents that year. About 72 percent of these deaths were someone in the vehicle and 14 percent of the deaths were pedestrians. In Nevada, approximately 300 people are killed each year due to car accidents. There are approximately 28,000 injuries reported in Nevada each year. In the past several years, there has been a decline in motor vehicle accident statistics. However, auto insurance fraud has risen 60% in recent years. Auto insurance fraud is a phrase that describes hard insurance scams, underwriting fraud, staged accidents and bodily injury claims. The increase in fraudulent claims has caused insurance companies to refuse to pay claims in many cases, even for those who have genuinely been injured.
